Question of Practice: What is the next big skill you want to learn?

07/31/2019 10:14 AM | Greater Boston Evaluation Network (Administrator)

Big data.  Data science.  Predictive analytics.  Social network analysis.  The field of evaluation is expanding to new frontiers, becoming a transdisciplinary practice.

Based on your work experience and interests in the field of evaluation, what is the next area(s) that you want to learn more about and integrate into your evaluation practice?

I have two skills I am interested in learning: 1.) I want to continue to learn about social network analysis as I know there is so much more I can learn with it. 2.) I also want to learn R to conduct quantitative analysis and based on a recent AEA365 post, learn how to do some data visualization within that software.

Slightly more on the research end, I want to begin conducting qualitative interviews and diving more into Qual analysis. On the more evaluation end, I want to get into Developmental Evaluation methods. I am working with a program that has had to rethink its approach several times and it has been challenging to keep up in terms of evaluation.
