Community Engaged Methods in Evaluation

This session will focus on practical insights into design and implementation of community engaged methods in evaluation. Framed through an equity, racial justice and community-centered approach, we will learn from Liz and each other through real life examples, case studies and analysis of what helps and hinders effective community engagement. Bring your examples of community engagement and leave feeling inspired to elevate the lived expertise of communities. We invite GBEN members who want to reflect on their community engagement or participatory practices and community engagement newbies who want to learn from others.

Presenter: 

Elizabeth "Liz" Peck, MPP, is the Founder and Principal of EP Strategies, LLC, a woman-owned small business specializing in public policy, community engagement, operations, research and evaluation. Prior to launching her consulting practice, Liz spent nearly 15 years in statewide policy advocacy organizations partnering with and mobilizing service providers, families experiencing housing instability, young parents, and youth to improve state and local policies and programs. During this time, she also led original research and developed best practices, tools and resources to inform statewide programming and policy. Liz brings her seasoned ability to listen, identify shared priorities and inspire collective action to her consulting practice where she works with government, Foundations and nonprofit partners to integrate community expertise, foster systems change, and apply research for action. With deep nonprofit experience from roles ranging from Interim Executive Director to Operations, Membership and Policy Director, Liz helps clients link lofty goals to practical implementation. Research and evaluation have been throughlines of her career, beginning with her first professional role at Abt Global, a research firm and think tank. She lives in Watertown, MA with her husband and two kids, where she relishes morning walks, audiobooks, and mindfulness practices.
