The “ideal” object of evaluation is a program that stands still, is delivered in a somewhat uniform manner, and whose participants have somewhat comparable degrees of exposure to the intervention.  These are well suited for conventional tools such as pre-and post- surveys.  What do you do if the program is much less structured and predictable?  Participants in settings like community drop-in centers, libraries, museums and makerspaces may spend half an hour there, or three hours; they may visit once or hundreds of times.  The settings themselves encourage spontaneity: the participants can follow their whims and interests in terms of what they do when there.  Come join René Milet Hernández (The Clubhouse Network) and GBEN in an exploration and discussion of how we might conduct evaluation in these slippery contexts.

René will give a 10-15 minute presentation on the work he's done at The Clubhouse Network and then we will spend time in small breakout groups to learn from others about how they've conducted evaluations in these contexts.
